What's the difference between UK and EU sizes?
European mattresses tend to have an edge over British mattresses being normally 200cm in length and of slightly increased width. European mattresses are not built to UK specifications, which is why people may choose to have a bespoke bed frame made to fit their European mattress.
All Emma mattresses are shipped in boxes no smaller than 45x45x110cm.
The Hybrid Luxe Thermosync Mattress is assembled in Ireland, with locally produced foam to ensure quality and durability. The springs and cover are imported. Additionally, our mattresses have fire-retardant qualities and are UKFR certified.

All our mattresses are designed to be ergonomic, ensuring proper spinal alignment to help prevent orthopedic issues. Each of our models has been thoughtfully tested, designed to deliver increasing levels of comfort, support, and thermal regulation through the use of innovative materials. Additionally, all our mattresses are motion-isolating, easy to clean with removable covers, and made from materials certified safe even for babies. If you're still unsure, our Emma Sleep Experts are always available to help you find the perfect sleep system for your needs.
The mattresses in the One line are 18cm tall, while those in the Original line are 25cm; the 6cm difference is mainly due to the added 'comfort' layers (such as thicker Airgocell and Halo Memory foams). Within each line, we've developed both all-foam (the One Foam and Original Foam mattresses) and hybrid foam-spring (the One Hybrid and Original Hybrid) variants. The all-foam mattresses use a zoned high-resilience foam for the base, while the hybrid spring ones use zoned pocket springs. Zoned pocket springs offer extra benefits towards better breathability, support, and durability compared to their foam counterparts. The steel springs hold their shape much better than foam over the mattress' life, and their ability to let air flow freely between them ensures heat doesn't stay trapped underneath you while you sleep. For those extra sensitive to overheating or sweating at night - our cooling mattresses (the Hybrid Premium and Deluxe Hybrids) include an innovative thermoregulating graphite foam layer that dissipates heat and wicks away moisture away from your body.
All our mattresses are designed to ensure great spinal alignment at multiple sleeping positions for different body types. We mainly do these through body zones in the mattress that sink differently depending on the part they support, regardless of whether it's an all-foam or hybrid spring mattress. For example, if you press down on the areas for your shoulders, these will sink in more vs the area for your lower back - essentially following the shape of your spine.
However, if you are concerned about overall support, we suggest going for a Hybrid spring mattress. Steel springs are generally more durable and able to support more weight overall vs even the most resilient foams. Their higher bounciness also ensures a more responsive feel, allowing you to roll around or get up from bed much more easily.
Like all materials, foams and innerspring have their own strengths. Foams are more pressure-relieving. If you're a side sleeper and get the feeling that your hands fall asleep, a foam mattress is probably the better solution for you.
Innersprings are usually a little firmer and therefore give a little more support. However, the biggest advantage of the innerspring core is that it's more ventilated. If you sweat a lot or live in a very humid climate, the spring core is worth considering.
We rely on high-performance materials for our mattresses. In our state-of-the-art test lab in Frankfurt, Germany, we test the durability of our mattresses to ensure very little deformation (usually less than a 5% change in height) after a period of 10 years. This ensures you get the same comfort and support throughout the whole expected life of the mattress.
If you experience a material failure, our 10-year guarantee will automatically apply.
Our normal core body temperature is 37°C but the core lowers its temperature by up to 1.5°C during the night as our body transitions to sleep. Maintaining this sleep temperature is crucial - going too warm or too cold can often impact sleep quality and even wake you up entirely.
While cold sleep is easily resolved with a blanket or duvet, overheating and sweating in bed is tougher to crack.
Our special graphite foam technology helps regulate optimal sleep temperature through excess heat dissipation. It is made with a special hyper-breathable foam for improved air circulation and infused with heat-conducting graphite that ensures heat is always transferred away from your body.
Moreover, the foam is specially designed to be moisture-wicking, ensuring any sweat doesn't pool underneath you, and is instead drawn away and evaporated.
Motion transfer is when your partner's movements on one side of the bed transfer to your side - and disturb your sleep. Minimizing this ensures that your partner moving about at night doesn't bother you.
All our mattresses are designed to keep all motion transfer to a minimum, whether all foam or hybrid spring. They're all equipped with layers of memory foam that absorb excess movement.
For those worried about jumpy spring mattresses, no need to fret. Those were a result of historical spring mattress designs, whereas our hybrid spring mattresses are made with modern pocket springs - individually wrapped coils that move independently of each other to ensure no movement is transferred between them.
Historically, softer mattresses were associated with sagging and therefore bad backs over time.
By building body zones with resilient materials into our mattresses, we've been able to better contour your body's overall shape and provide more support where it's needed (like in your hips and lower back), and give where it's more important (like your shoulders). This is why you'll see holes or cut-outs in our all-foam mattresses, and why the springs in our hybrids compress to different degrees.
Where mattress firmness options are provided, this is often more a matter of subjective preference than impacting overall comfort or ergonomics.
Those who prefer a huggier, enveloping feel should select a medium mattress, while those who prefer to sleep above the mattress surface should select the firm option.
For the product lines in general:
1. The One is considered quite firm with a very minimal hugging feeling at the top layer.
2. The Original is generally considered a medium-soft mattress that has the most hug-feel (without being sinky).
3. The Original Hybrid is considered a medium mattress that's more balanced between the One and the Original (with most preferring this).
4. The XX is most similar in laying feeling to the Original Hybrid, with the topmost layer adjusted for a bit more of a cuddly cloud feel, so would be considered a bit softer (but still firmer than the Original)."
Our Emma mattresses are cleverly packaged in an easy-to-move cardboard box. We use a special vacuuming process to gently compress and roll your mattress so that even the largest mattress can fit inside a box. This space-saving method allows you to move it around your home more easily upon delivery, is kinder to the environment, and takes up less space on our delivery trucks - allowing more efficient and faster transport to you!
Yes, if your new Emma mattress has an odor, it's totally normal. The smell is harmless and you just need to let the mattress air out for up to 72 hours to clear the odor.
Unfortunately, we do not yet offer this service. Why don't you find out in your area whether the mattress can be donated and give it a second life?
The Risk-free Trial Period is an exclusive benefit offered to Emma customers. The day your item arrives at your delivery address, the 200-night trial starts. We offer this benefit because we believe the only way you'll know if an Emma product is the right fit for you is by testing it and getting used to it. Most people also need a few days or weeks to fully adapt to their new mattress.
If at any point during the 200-night period, you think our product is not the perfect match for you, you can return it for a full refund.
All you have to do is use our Returns Portal to start the process. We’ll then take care of the rest: Our customer service team will organize a pick-up for your mattress with our returns partner. Once your return has been collected and processed, please allow up to 14 days to receive your refund.
